We removed the door from the kitchen to allow space for the new cooktop. The new window is wider and was shifted over slightly to the left to better fit the kitchen. We used a bookcase on the end of the island for cookbook storage.

Freestanding island with seating for four. Gary and Jodi wanted to maintain the seating for four but make the kitchen flow better.

    after5 after5

The new seating area was converted into a peninsula by extending the knee-wall to support the granite counters. There is still seating for four but with more space around it. The inside of the eating area also has a cabinet for a future computer and there is a grommet for routing cables.

We moved the range from the sink wall and turned it into a wall oven and induction cooktop with a tumble marble backsplash.

before

The range was pressed right up against the end wall and there was very limited space between the sink and the range.

    after7 after5

We moved the range off this wall to provide more counter space around the sink. We also recessed the wall cabinet above the sink to allow more head room.
